Howdy! It’s been a just over a year since my last post. A lot has happened.
Life is like that.
I started this website with a deep passion for food, good health, and lifestyle changes. Boy, did I get it in spades – so much so that I need to put a hold on the food site and concentrate on the travel sites.
To sum up the past two years, I left my corporate job in March of 2015. I was deeply unhappy with cubical life and rush hour traffic. Even my house was feeling like a heavy weight holding me down from the kind of life I wanted to live.
I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, had high blood pressure, and was deeply depressed, mostly about a lack of passion in my life.
While living off a small severance package, I went to school to become an international tour director. It’s a dream I’ve had since I was 12. I think I scared myself. I was trying to keep one toe in the old business while trying to enter the new business. Some people are afraid of getting everything they ever wished for. I just had to get out of my own way, right?
In 2016 I had a few local, short stints, drove for Uber, got a seasonal holiday job and went to a conference for a newly created tour association.
Mostly, I allowed myself to calm down. The job responses didn’t start coming until I really centered myself and got the heck out of my own way. Sink or swim. I had to stop trying to play it safe. I encourage everyone to be bold and try getting out of your comfort zone at least once a week.
Food has always been a passion in my life but what and how I was eating needed to change. I will continue to write about food but it will be while I’m on the road. Once I get going, I’ll revamp this site to include information from other countries; how they deal with food sensitivities, tricky social situations, and just plain kitchen organization.
Since then, I’ve been rebuilding my body. My glucose levels are almost back to normal. My blood pressure is back to normal, and my energy levels have finally gone back up. It is quite possible that I could kick the diabetes meds if I exercise enough and stay on the new food regime. That’s my goal, anyway.
I’ve been hired as a Tour Director for one of the many companies that lead land excursions in Alaska. I’ll be moving there from May through September. This is just the beginning.
I appreciate the great feedback I’ve received on the short progress I’ve made on this site. I’ve learned so much and will continue on with future websites. I feel a little wiser about personal expectations how much I can actually get done in a day. I will revive SilverLadleWoodenSpoon once I get an idea of my schedule and free time.
